Celestial Orb Series

As seen in the collaborative exhibition, The Truth of the Night Sky.

Patterson’s celestial body of sculptures explores the awe-inspiring and wondrous experience of looking up into the night sky. Her celestial orbs utilize hundreds of feet of piano wire wrapped into wide, buoyant spheres, embellished with resin, gold leaf, and rhinestones. She hopes these sculptures recall the ephemeral nature of the constellations, while also capturing a sense of their beauty. Accelerando asks the viewer to examine how the celestial world can help us see new possibilities, by encouraging us to bridge new connections. Patterson looks to the night sky and uses her artwork to build a relationship between herself and the natural world. By building and nurturing this relationship, Patterson strives to live in communion with the natural world, learning and listening to its needs. She hopes that her works can inspire viewers to experience the gifts that nature offers in every space, as well as to encourage building community whenever possible.
